Now that our tummies and refrigerators are full with our Thanksgiving feast, it’s time to think about the tummies that are still growling. It’s hard to know for sure, but statistics seem to show that there are up to 70 million homeless pets out there. Many of these homeless animals are just house pets that were lost and never reunited with their owners. Pets actually outnumber people 5 to 1 when it comes to homelessness. That’s a lot of loving companions out there that need care. And it’s no wonder that after these pets are taken in by Animal Control, it can be hard to find the resources to care for them.
This is why we are pleased to announce that it’s that time to help those pets in need! Karla’s Pet Care is hosting the 2nd Annual Hungry Bowl™ Pet Food Drive to benefit homeless pets of Elk Grove Animal Control. As part of an international effort spearheaded by Pet Sitters International (PSI), the largest educational association for professional pet sitters, the Hungry Bowl™ Pet Food Drive was created to collect pet food for local shelters and pet-rescue groups across the globe.
Karla’s Pet Care has been a member of Pet Sitter’s International since 2004. Last year was our very first Hungry Bowl™ Pet Food Drive, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our turn out. We had 3 drop off locations and collected 700 pounds of dog and cat food (dry and canned). It was all stored in Karla’s garage, then transferred it all to her husband’s truck and carted off to the Elk Grove Animal Control; finally it was loaded it into the Animal Control Van to take to their storage facility.
